Facts To Consider When Considering Contacts

Blog

Most people who have worn glasses have also at one point thought about contact lenses, and there are some noteworthy benefits to them. Those benefits should be weighed against potential challenges or problems you may discover during the course of the day. Knowing what to be prepared for will help you decide whether or not the initial exam and the period of adjustment that follows are worth it to you personally.

A New Way of Seeing the World

One of the biggest hurdles for new contact lens wearers to overcome is a period of adjustment to seeing through a lens far closer to the eye. This adjustment can throw off your equilibrium and spatial awareness for most of the first day, and will persist each time you switch back to your glasses, such as at night before bed or on your days off from work. Your eyes will take time to adapt to the new perspective, so it's important to make allowances that take that into account.

Avoid complicated tasks, driving or operating heavy equipment until your eyes have fully adjusted to your contact lenses each time. While that adaptation will take less time as you wear your contact lenses, it never goes away completely.

Unforeseen Difficulties

It's not always easy to anticipate challenges you may face while wearing contact lenses, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't make every effort to do so. Remember that your eyes will have one less layer of protection against dust and debris, both of which can cling to your contact lens. Further, air conditioning will cause the lens to dry out over time. Make sure you find a hydrating eye drop product that you can use comfortably without further irritating your eyes.

Meager though it may have been, your glasses also provided protection from bright lights, including the sun. Your eyes haven't become more sensitive to light, they simply lack the reflective lens from your glasses that once blocked some of the incoming light. It's a good idea to invest in a good pair of sunglasses, especially for driving during the day, even if you might not have needed or wanted them in the past.

As eager as you might be to switch to contact lenses, it's a good idea to take precautions. Keep your old glasses on hand for days when your eyes are tired or irritated or if you're ill. If you find yourself having other complications, make sure you contact your eye doctor immediately for help.

Learning About Eye Exams

Hi there, I am Sophie Moye. I would like to help you learn what to expect during your yearly eye exam. Whether you have perfect vision or need corrective lenses, you must have an eye exam performed on a regular basis. The eye exam also identifies health problems that show symptoms through your eye condition. Furthermore, your eye doctor can create a vision baseline that can be used to gauge loss or improvement in the future. I hope to discuss the tools and techniques used to complete the eye exam. I will also discuss symptoms that eye doctors look for during the exams. My site will cover all of the health conditions that can be diagnosed using an eye exam. Thank you for your time.
