Cataracts are a common eye disease that can affect a person's quality of life. Luckily, there have been many developments in the eye health field in recent years. If you have cataracts, you have the option to undergo cataracts surgery and see well again. However, in order to make a full recovery from the procedure, you must follow your eye surgeon's aftercare instructions.
Here are several things you shouldn't do after cataracts surgery.
Apply Makeup
When you are recovering from cataracts surgery, you will have to put your eyeliner and other eye makeup products down. Your eyes will be very susceptible to infection following cataracts surgery, and makeup is loaded with bacteria. Ask your surgeon when you can resume wearing makeup.
Swimming
Whether it is in a pool or ocean, swimming is a fun activity and can cool you off on a hot day. However, it is something you will need to avoid when you are recovering from cataracts surgery. If you get water in your eye while you are still healing, you could suffer an eye infection.
Driving
Your eye surgeon will advise you against driving for at least 24 hours after your cataracts surgery. You will have blurry vision after the procedure, so you can't see the road well. Ask a family member or friend to drive you home after the surgery.
Rubbing Your Eyes
It is normal for your eyes to itch after cataracts surgery. However, that doesn't mean you should rub them. Touching your eyes can cause further irritation and even an infection. If the itching is causing you a lot of discomfort, your eye surgeon may be able to prescribe eye drops.
Engaging in Strenuous Activities
Cataracts surgery might not be major surgery, but it's important to take it easy for a while. Heavy lifting and other rigorous activities can increase eye pressure and delay the healing process. Avoid strenuous activities for at least a couple of weeks.
Going Without Sunglasses
It is always a good idea to wear sunglasses when you're outdoors. When you are healing from a cataracts surgery, it's a must. Your eyes will be extra sensitive to the sun's ultraviolet rays, so protect them with sunglasses.
Avoiding these things will help you successfully recover from your cataracts surgery. If you feel major discomfort or have additional questions regarding your recovery, you should not hesitate to give your eye surgeon a call.

Hi there, I am Sophie Moye. I would like to help you learn what to expect during your yearly eye exam. Whether you have perfect vision or need corrective lenses, you must have an eye exam performed on a regular basis. The eye exam also identifies health problems that show symptoms through your eye condition. Furthermore, your eye doctor can create a vision baseline that can be used to gauge loss or improvement in the future. I hope to discuss the tools and techniques used to complete the eye exam. I will also discuss symptoms that eye doctors look for during the exams. My site will cover all of the health conditions that can be diagnosed using an eye exam. Thank you for your time.
